Our sleeping position is something many of us may not even think about, and few of us can really control it without considerable effort even when we do think about it. Any way you slice it, how you sleep can cause wrinkles. Are you a stomach sleeper, a side sleeper, or hopefully a back sleeper? If you’re the latter, the likelihood of your getting wrinkles simply from snoozing, it practically nil. But do you sleep on your back all throughout night? Usually not. How do you know you are causing wrinkles? Usually you will wake up at least a few times with lines on your face from sleeping. This is evidence enough to let you know you are sleeping on your face and exerting tension on your skin. Usually the side which you sleep on will begin to develop wrinkles which you will notice as you age.

The state yesterday suspended the medical license of a plastic surgeon who allegedly performed two operations at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center while impaired and apparently fell asleep on his feet as he did a patient’s liposuction.

The hospital had fired Dr. Loren Borud on July 18, three weeks after the June 27 incident. Borud, 44, has been in treatment for alcohol or drug abuse since at least 2002, and last month was the second time he was known to have behaved strangely at work, according to a statement of allegations by the Board of Registration in Medicine, which licenses physicians.

Such a topic of debate! It is no secret that I am not a fan of traveling overseas for cosmetic surgery vacations. This little fact usually causes such a storm that I am close-minded, and my oh, what was the word…archaic thinking. Whatever. It is my opinion. You don’t have to agree with it, but I ask that you be civil in your debate over the subject.

First I want to say my beliefs aren’t because of the surgeons themselves; I do not doubt the skill of a surgeon simply because he or she is not from the United States. I just feel that if you are in the US, you should have no problem finding a qualified surgeon who meets your expectations in skill, communication, bedside manner, and price range. Traveling to Mexico, Thailand, or wherever, for surgery, away from the comforts of home and convenience is not my idea of a goodtime. I have traveled simply across the country [to Atlanta] for surgery and when I had complications I had to extend my trip, plus travel back and forth for months afterwards. I can’t imagine having surgery in another country where you may not be able to research the disciplinary records, or malpractice suits, and having difficulty with recourse (in the event that this becomes a need) in anyway is just another worry on top of being concerned for the surgery itself. Then in the event you do have complications, traveling back and forth or being passed on to another surgeon stateside? It is absolutely unappealing to me.
