Hidden Beauty Secrets: Are We Too Good For The Drugstore?

skincare_drop.jpgAre Drugstore finds really so bad? For the most part, no! When I run out of prescription, or specialty, skincare, I often run to the drugstore and pick up an old standby or two. You may feel that the more expensive a product, the better it works. Well, for some products, yes, this is the case. But you don’t have to go broke to stay beautiful—especially if you’re on a budget.

There are some products in my beauty arsenal that I can only get at the drugstore. In fact, until about 2 weeks ago I only used Neutrogena® Fresh Foaming Cleanser as my facial wash. However, I recently decided to try Neutrogena® Deep Clean Facial Wash. Neutrogena products don’t seem to inflame my skin or make my acne worse than it already is. Quite a few celebrities have reported that they also use Neutrogena products, mostly the Deep Clean Facial Wash and the Facial Bar.

Other winners are moisturizers and lotions. I have used Aveeno acne facial products in the past, but feel it only caused more breakouts. I felt that the drying nature of the salicylic acid caused too much dry skin to accumulate, blocking oils under the layer of dry, tight skin. Even when I exfoliated really well, it would happen. I didn’t feel the Positively Radiant Serum did much for me but I only used one bottle of it. A product has to do something with the first bottle or tube for me to stay interested. I love the Aveeno body moisturizer, however. I even use it to remove my eye make-up every night.

Physician’s Formula has some great cosmetics. I actually cannot live without their blonde eyebrow pencil. I have found that it is the best texture, pigment and color to match my skin tone and hair color. And it’s very inexpensive. I have tried expensive brands and don’t feel they compare. Unfortunately not all drugstores carry this particular item.

Although I use Smashbox Cream Eyeliner in “Caviar” for my upper lids, I am faithful to the classic Perfect Blend Eyeliner in black for the lower and inside rim. I have always used this since I was 16 and although I have strayed, I always find my way back. There is no substitute.

The Olay Regenerist line seems to be pretty popular. I have only used a few samples, not enough top truly determine the efficacy. But it seems to rate pretty high among users. The top products in this line have been reported as Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum, Olay Regenerist Night Cream, and the Olay Total Effects.

Do you shop at the drugstore for some of your beauty products? Or are you a slave to expensive is better? Sometimes, being cheap is a good thing.
