I Have Internet!!!!!!!!!
Everyone take a moment to be thankful that they have Internet and cell coverage from their homes. Seriously. It has taken me forever to get Internet at the new house. I had DSL in the seller’s name when I moved in. The seller’s tried to switch it to my name [and Verizon said they could] but Verizon in the end did not. Well, I tried desperately to get it back knowing that someone was probably waiting in line for it. Well, they were—and they got it because I had one appointment after the other canceled on me by Verizon (without telling me, mind you!!) because “ma’am, you’re too far from the main office to get DSL” Even though I had it when I moved in, albeit very briefly. Apparently there was a capacity for about 12 lines on the hill and I had one of them.
It has been unbelievable. I had been working at Starbuck’s a few times a week at $9.99 a shot for T Mobile. Not to mention, gorging myself on coffee so that I did not offend the workers.
So, I looked into Satellite Internet and made an appointment and waited… I get this call on the drizzly, foggy day they were to install my satellite and was advised it could not be done that day. So I waited… Finally the sun comes out and dries everything up and the installer shows up. I can’t have it on the side of my house because the DirectTV HD dish is too large and is taking up all the space. So it needs to go on a pole 25 feet from the house. So a hole must be dug for the pole, cement poured and a trench a foot deep must be dug as well for the conduit. So $682. total later! I have Internet. Slow Internet! Now I have to upgrade my package to the only next-available upgrade and hope for the best.
So, here I am, back again. This time with a super-appreciation for having Internet in the comfort of my own home. Now I am able to actually WORK again so I can continue to dish out every red-cent to run this money-draining place I call home. :p
Now, I am off to buy a booster for my cell phone…

YAY!!!!
glad you're back!
I feel your pain. I still wince when I remember the hoops I had to jump through to get my house correctly hooked up by the phone company when I moved in umpteen years ago. And I've changed home internet providers (or worse, had them change on me when companies got bought out) and each time came with fresh new headaches.
So sigh with contentment and enjoy yourself.
