Would I Have Rhinoplasty Again?

A friend pointed out to me that rhinoplasty surgery has the highest rate of revisions. It seems that some people, especially mature people, may not readily accept the new look. Being accustomed to their old nose they just can’t seem to comfortably make the transition. Although there are a few rhinoplasties that just don’t heal right, due to something as serious as human error (the doctor’s) or as simple as not having your head elevated enough or sleeping on one side a lot without a proper cast, tugging on it, etc. The nose can pull to one side if the cast does not support it properly in the first week or so. Or quite simply, your body may just heal that way.
The tip of my nose goes a little to the left. Not that you could notice because you wouldn’t sit there and look at my nose in a thousand different angles repeatedly. But, you would your own nose. Also, I had to have cartilage taken out on the right side and added to the left. But, I noticed by comparing my befores that my nose went to the side even before my rhinoplasty.
I would personally like to have a rhinoplasty revision, however, I am glad I had this primary rhinoplasty surgery.  It does look a lot better. I do like the fact that it has softened the appearance of my face.  But like I said, I would like a small revision in about two months.  I just can’t get my plastic surgeon to agree to it.

I've been submited to rhinoplasty twice.
In the first syrgery, I'ven't seen visible results and I was still unhappy about my nose.
Two months later, I've made another surgery but my nose became what doctors call "a saddle nose" and it's even worse.
No I'm afraid to go under the knife again and not beeing satisfied with the results.
But there's also another problem: I've been breathing worse and worse. Please help me. What should I do?

Agnes,

I know several people who have had mulptiple, unsuccessful surgeries. It is a very difficult situation indeed. Removingmuch more/having surgery in general increases your chance of collapse and even more contour irregularities. But I understand the need and desire to at least restore your nose to what you had before.

I can only suggest that you consult with teh top names in revision rhinoplasty, and I strongly urge you to post on the rhinoplasty4you.com forum before doing so. There are a lot of people who either post, or lurk, who have gone, or are going, through what you are.

Keep your chin up, I had a friend of mine who had 6 surgeries and her results were very very VERY poor. But she finally had it fixed by a top surgeon in Chicago. Just realize it takes a very logn time for the swelling to go down (especially with mulptiple rhinoplasties) and that you shouldn't consider anymore surgery until you are full healed. Doing so could mislead the surgeon into feeling the need to remove more than he should.

Good luck to you and please keep in touch and lt me know how your search goes...

I would personally not have my surgery again...there was very little wrong with my nose and I wish I had a time machine so I could travel back. I would have saved two long years of misery and expense....
Agnes - I had surgery to alter the tip of my nose and it became shapeless/deprojected instead....I will probably have to fly out of state to a top surgeon to have it fixed... research a surgeon who can augment your dorsum....I think Toriumi in Chicago does a lot of work with rib cartilage...it sounds scary I know - google augmenting the dorsum with costal cartilage...if you have usable ear cartilage they may be able to use that also...all secondary/revisions are expensive so start saving!....after my primary mistake I started an account dedicated to my revision...I now have enough money to choose one of the best surgeons....I want this to (hopefully) be my final rhinoplasty...I hope this is helpful..
PS- my septum was perforated after surgery which made my breathing worse...you can go to a major hospital and make an appointment to see a otolaryngologist....at least you can get an idea of what is impeding your breathing....
best wishes...sunny
