Why I wanted Liposuction

liposuction.JPGAfter starting Enhancement Media years ago and sitting in my uncomfortably, stupid-expensive Aeron chair for 10 to 12 hours a day, I gained weight.  It may not have been substantial in numbers but it made an impact on my thighs and stomach.  I did diet and exercise a good portion of it off, but I wanted to lose 5 more lb.   As it happens, about that time I had been asked to be in a documentary about plastic surgery.  And liposuction was on the menu.

I honestly didn’t want liposuction surgery at first.  I wanted to get rid of it the fat, sure.  But, I wanted to do it the traditional way (i.e. diet and exercise).  Now, I wasn’t embarrassed that I was taking the “easy” way out as some had commented because, firstly, liposuction is NOT easy.  It is also not without flaw.  I knew this beforehand and was apprehensive about taking the chance.

Yes, I was told of the liposuction risks and the complications and being under general anesthesia for so long was what bothered me most.  Not the possibility of some liposuction scar tissue.  Well, ‘some’ is an understatement but I’ll reserve that for another day.  I knew basically what to expect having seen so many people go through with it.  I have taken care of patients who were friends, and even strangers, who I had met the day of their liposuction surgery.  I knew the good and bad of liposuction, but still I became caught up in it all and decided to do it because even if I did diet and exercise I still wanted smaller hips and thighs.  Don’t we all??

I had never had excess abdominal fat, and I am not prone to it genetically, but if you eat enough you will eventually get it.  Although I was not actually eating a lot, I was very sedentary.  That and stress made me crave carbohydrates.  Although I wasn’t eating a lot of them, I was solely living off of them.  I am not a person who can handle a lot of carbs without severely gaining anyway so you can imagine the demise of my figure was quite fast.

So, with the producers encouraging liposuction to my abdomen, hips, plus outer and inner thighs, off I went.  I had Power-Assisted Liposuction, or PAL, which my doctor had never used before.  I personally feel my partner and I had more than our fair share of scar tissue for reasons still unknown to me, especially after the abdominal liposuction.

I was generally satisfied with the results of my liposuction surgery right except for the swelling.  Today, the scar tissue is more apparent and although the shape is much more pleasing in clothing, I will not wear a bathing suit anymore.

I personally recommend that superficial fat not be touched, especially in those who are thin-skinned.  Adhesions can be very apparent without a cushion of fat directly under the skin.  Uneven fat cell removal on top of that make it for a bumpy, unsightly mess.  Just be sure you choose your surgeon wisely, you choose a method he is proficient in, and get Endermologie for the fist three months (if your surgeon allows) to lessen the chances of scar tissue formation.

I do not ever think that liposuction ever becomes the sole answer to losing weight.  However I do realize that it can be a fabulous tool for those who honestly have true genetic fat disposition which does not please them.  To learn more about liposuction and find a boadr certified surgeon I recommend you visit liposuction resource page. Just know going into it that scar tissue can be an issue and do your homework!

Hi M~

I have to agree here...lipo is not a cure all & you do trade it for possible other problems...

My experience was after getting the saddlebags sucked out, my skin never retracted well, so now I have elephant skin there. Still would not wear a bathing suit either....loose skin is very unsightly to me...now I am considering a future butt lift....sigh...

I will send ya my pics soon. I wanna get a set of current one's for you this weekend...(of my bewbies & tummy tuck,)..very pleased.

Hugs~Lisa

I think liposuction is great. It is one of the best invention ever made. It help everyone specially the fat one gain or return back their confidence again. No offense.Liposuction are done by the expert surgeon and what ever would be the result of it will always be depends on individual. It's just a matter of "self-discipline". Well surgeons are there to help us but after doing their job it is now our job to maintain it.
