Breast Augmentation Surgery Preparation – My Personal Experience
Having gone through 2 breast augmentations and about 5 breast surgeries (boob jobs if you wish) total (not including an in-office incision touch up), I kind of have the whole recovery process down pat. I am going to share some tips with you that I personally feel are important in the preparation and recovery after breast augmentation surgery.
First and foremost, you should abide by your plastic surgeon’s instructions. Do not do anything that I may discuss in the below article your surgeon does not approve. This is not to be taken as medical advice, but rather as an experienced patient’s insight.
Preparation is key! Take care of everything you can at least a day before you have a surgery. Running around the day of is not only stressful; it is thoughtless and rude to your caregiver. Plus, in the event you do have a complication, you will be able to handle it more efficiently than if you have no clue where your thermometer, medications, and gauze pads are. Get your ducks in a row well before the surgery.
Her are some useful tips on planning your breast augmentation surgery:
· Have all of your labs completed prior the surgery. If your analysis are not available to your surgeon the day of your procedure, most likely it will be canceled and I doubt you will get a refund.
· Quit smoking and drinking alcohol at least two weeks prior breast augmentation surgery. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor and can disrupt much-needed oxygen via the blood if the blood vessels can effectively get it to your healing breasts. Consuming alcoholic beverages in advance will significantly increase your chances of a bleeding or stubborn bruising.
· Have all of your prescriptions filled and your supplies on hand. Place them in a convenient area in the event that you need them, and need them fast. If they are sitting in a shopping bag on the floor or in your trunk, they aren’t very readily available, are they?
· Stock up on easily prepared or individually packaged meals. You can also choose to prepare your own food ahead of time and place them in small serving dishes. I prefer healing antioxidant winners like broiled salmon, blueberries, green tea, almonds, tomatoes, broccoli, red grapes, avocados, and even a bit of dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa).
· Buy quality post-surgical garments before the surgery. Cheap bras from your local Wal-Mart aren’t designed to adequately support your breasts after a surgery. You need a true post-surgical bra to wear right after your breast augmentation procedure. Although some of them may remind you of contraptions for breast bondage, they are essential in the event your surgeon requires you to have support, and not a breast band.
· Please see http://breastimplants4you.com/prepare4surgery.htm for helpful tips on recovering from your breast enlargement surgery.
As obvious as this is, the more you prepare, the more prepared you will be. Advance preparation is the way to go, have a plan. Be healthy, have a positive outlook, and most importantly, abide by your surgeon’s instructions!
