Restylane Injections: Why I Love Them

I have been getting Restylane (and/or Perlane) injections since 2002, well before Restylane was approved in the US. I have to say there is nothing like an immediate pick-me-up procedure to put you in a good mood!

restylane_undereye.jpgI have had Restylane injections in the lips, vermilion border, philtral ridges, nasolabials, and under eyes by Dr. Jonathan Hoenig.  I completely love getting it injected under my eyes (see photo, your left)  This placement can make a huge difference in your appearance if you are growing hollow. With the use of a topical anesthetic like LMX (Ferndale) beforehand, the pain is very minimal, if at all.

I am going back in about a week or so to get some more Restylane injected under my eyes and MAYBE in my lips. I only need a little bit in my lips. I have to say though, just as reported, it is lasting longer and longer. I am thrilled that it must be doing exactly as they suspected—triggering my own collagen to grow. I had it once or twice in my nasolabials and I haven’t needed that treated again either. Even after a ton of unhealthy weight loss during a period of depression I went through this Spring. Go figure!

I have also had Restylane injected in my right upper eyelid by Dr. Hoenig (see photo below).    I have only had it injected once in my upper eyelid in the Fall of 2006 and its effects still remain.

before_afterrestytoeye.jpg

The only disappointment is that it cannot be injected into the tip of the nose, I want it in the little facet I have on the right side of my nose. Unfortunately, I am told that the risk for necrosis of the skin (skin death) is possible. I’m just not willing to take that chance.

I’ll post some new pics of my next injections soon. I have to say that if you want to treat some depressions, wrinkles, and/or augment certain areas of your face, Resty will certainly do the job. Just be prepared for swelling if you get it in the lips.   It’s worth it though!

I agree! Getting resty is a definate pick me up. I had injections for my hollows and NL lines back in march and though it was still there I recently had it done again the last week of october. I love it even more this time. This time he injected along the top of cheeks to the outer corner or my eyes and it's great. Follow up tomorrow. I can't wait to try the lips! I had fat there and loved it but the perlane you got looks great.

Absolutely! it is one of thebest pickmeups ever. :) I need to get in there and get some under my eyes before Christmas :)

Let me know how it goes!

Hi Marianne, I was interested in your opinion on fat grafting vs. Resty vs. Sculptra for cheeks, under eyes, and lips. Given the cost, results, and how long lasting each is. Also, I know you haven't done it, but what do you think of Artefill?

Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Having had fat twice and Restylane on several occasions I believe that Restylane is easier to sculpt and obviously temporary enough to avoid huge mishap. I do feel that my JuveDerm has lasted a lot longer in my lips this time. I can't believe my Resty is still in my upper eyelid but is finally going away underneath.

I have had some scar tissue issues from thefat, I didn't think it lasted very long at all in my lips, undereyes or cheeks. I am not saying that it can't but in my experience, the swelling, the cost and the bruising was not worth it for me.

For me Restylane is just so much easier even though it is expensive. However, I have seen some fabulous results with repeat fat injections from D'onofrio. But, they were repeat injections and at a pretty high cost IMHO. But it's all relative.

Artefill...having known people who have gotten it personally and it took quite a bit to get the augmentation that they desired. I know a few who have gotten it cut out as well due to being firmer than they had liked. I can't say I would get it for large depressions, but I might for smaller areas. Having had a semi-permanent filler cut out twice, I am less apt to consider something like that. Maybe for firmer areas, nasal augmenation (but not so much that it might cause necrosis) but it would seems more plausible that I'd consider it for that application than the lips. I have had lip implants and that was too firm for me. The softer, the better if you ask me.

Yes, I agree! I don't want to end up with firm lips and rubbery cheeks. In this instance, soft is good! Your cheeks look stunning in your Sculptra pictures. So much to think about.
Thanks much for your response!

Ahhhh swelling. You gotta love it. I love how the swelling after any injections truly enhances your cheeks and undereyes. The Sculptra hadn't yet begun to do its magic so that was all swelling.

My favorite pic is about 6 weeks after my fat grafting and brow lift. Of course it's all swelling and a post-surgical tightness you can never retain. Guess everything goes to heck eventually!!

I feel like I have really hollowed out as of late. I have been living HARD the last 5 months. It is now time to start eating well again and taking care of myself.

I busted my knee the other day landing a new canopy and, although it was my fault, I forgot how much it sucks to get hurt lol. Of course I scraped the good, unscarred knee and not the already scarred one from my last motorcycle accident. Such is life.

The way I have been living is taking its toll on my appearance. No boobs, no Botox, cruddy extensions, no Resty, no bottle tan. What am I doing?? After the house stress goes away I am off to get overhauled. I am long overdue.

Happy Turkey Day!!

Hello,

I have followed your yestheyrefake.net website for years. I am curious about how long your swelling and/or brusing lasted after receiving restylane in your undereye area lasted, and how long the effect was. I actually have an appointment with Dr.Hoenig next week for a consult for the same. Thanks for all of your great info!

I think it has varied. If I had drank a day or two before, if a blood vessel was accidentally hit during injection, if I didn't ice well enough afterwards.

Sometimes I didn't bruise much at all, other times I looked beat up. I do know that I was told to ice for the first 48 hours and then heat thereafter to help reduce the bruising. See if Dr Hoenig agrees if you do bruise.

Let me know how it goes :) I am SO due for Resty!!

Hi Marianne! I hope you are surviving--dare I say enjoying--the holidays.

So, instead of doing all this crazy drastic stuff (that I really, really want to do!) I decided to copy you and go get some Resty. I had my ex b/f (the one who botched did the labioplasty) hook me up (he owes me, afterall!).

We started in the lips and I love how they look. I can't believe I forgot how amazing a little filler can make them look! I shan't be without again.

Then, after reading about your experiences and seeing your results, I decided to have him inject under my eyes and around the tops of my cheeks. Five, yes FIVE, syringes of Resty later I am a swollen freak. The bridge of my nose is now almost level with my cheeks! I am hoping that it will soon resolve, but never having had this kind of swelling I'm a little nervous. On the brightside, I'm hard pressed to find a single wrinkle on my face.

Happy Holidays!
Carrie

Hi Marianne!
i hope you can offer me some solace and some hints on how to handle this.

nine days ago I had Juvederm under both eyes. The dr is very good surgeon and has done wonders for my previously botched abdominoplasty after I had an 11 lb baby boy.

but the Juve made me have bag-looking things under my eyes. I had minimal bruising and swelling, but swelling is gone and I have what looks like a long protruding bag along under my right eye that extends from my nose to the outer rim.

dr says i am still inflamed and i should give it another week, since it has been only 9 days, before he consideres hyauloronidase. He also gave me lasix for swelling. But in your experience, what do you recommend I do? What will happen to me? I look tired and sick, when i did not look this way before.

I am fair-skinned, blue eyes, am 42, (though i stay thin and toned and had lower bleph, and a number of facial peels, so people think i'm 25).

is this normal for someone of my coloration and cohort? Should I give this more time? What is gonna happen to me?

Thanks for any moral support you can give me. :)

I love your website. Thank you SOO much for being there for us sisters! :)

HI Dear,
it has been 2 months after Juve under my eye muslces and I still have these bag looking things that make me look older. I looked younger before. ugh. anyway, i will never go to that Dr. again for Juve under eyes.

Who did you go to?? I am sure whomever it is you can go back and express your displeasure. Perhaps something can be done. I need Resty under my eyes again, or more 5FU in my scar tissue. I just wish it would go away BLEH!!!

I hope you can get it corrected, I know how it is living with something that makes you look a little worse, and not better like it was supposed to!

Hello. I originally planned on having only my Nasolabial Folds filled, but the doctor had some Restylane left and injected my Marionette Lines, which were barely visible. After the injections, it appeared that I had folds where I never noticed them before. I went back today and he tried filling in the areas around the folds in hopes of smoothing out the areas. The doctor said he wants to make me happy. I feel that I look older than I did before I got the Restylane. Has anyone else experienced this? The doctor said if I am not happy in a week, he will melt everything but at this point, I am afraid to do anything. I am wondering if this will disappear in 6 months or so. I wasn't and am not ready for a facelift, but it looks like I need one now.

Hi Marianne!
i went to Dr. Khoobehi in NOLA area. he quoted me $550 for a syringe of Juve, but nailed me for $750 when i was about to pay because "It is extra for under eyes since you are paying or his 'technique and expertise'" But he overfills!
That is the 2nd time he did that to me. First time I hid my face for a couple of months till the excess Restylane went down. THen I went for Juve and told him i did not want anything overfilled this time, only smooth, but i guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks. He does not listen, and he put way too much Juve in. I did not tell my BF because i wanted to surprise him thinking I was rested, but instead he looked at me and accused me of not taking care of myself and that i was sick. Other people also began commenting on my "age." i felt old and depressed, so I went back to Khoobehi telling him that I did not want to pay $750 to look old and sick. I wanted him to remove this. I also told him what my BF said to me, and Dr. Khoobehi just turned on his heels and walked away from me. Of course that hurt my feelings, but I guess egos on these doctors cannot be messed with. Anyway, it has been two months and I am trying to avoid certain lighting so people do not notice these bags and holes in my face. What a waste of $750! I wish i had gone to an expert. I am shopping around now. PS what is 5-FU and what does it do?
How do i get rid of my ridges too?

May 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterChrys

I would have been torqued! had he charged me for his "expertise". It's $550, that's what he said. That's what he should get. What nonsense.

5FU (aka 5-fluorouracil, or Fluorouracil) is a chemotherapy drug used for certain types of cancer. The side effect is that it can lessen scar tissue. Although it seems to be temporary and is needed in several injections to be permanent. It is most effective when used within 3-6 months of scar tissue formation but I had improvement well after that. I seem to have finally hit the permanent mark, lol. I am going back for Juve and Resty as soon as I can get to L.A.. I look haggard!!!

Good luck to you hon! and find someone else, I wouldn't stand for that type of treatment, no way, no how. :(

CBT:

I think it should disappear before the 6 mo mark. You may have swelling right now and it may look like folds. I would wait before doing anything. In teh future, slow and easy wins the race, but I have to admit I have had considerable swelling many times with Resty and feel that it does significantly dissipate as the week following the tx goes by.
