Botox: How Often Should You Get It
Many of you may wonder just how many times per year one should get Botox, or how many times one can get Botox before it
becomes unsafe. Regarding efficacy, the average length of time between Botox injections is between 4 and 9 months. Obviously, the range will vary from person to person, but the manufacturer of Botox (Allergan) suggests injections every 4 months as the most effective suggestion in the average patient. Based upon my own Botox treatment experience, I feel this time frame is best for me as well.
The cost of Botox has definitely gone up over the years. So, having repeat injections can make a huge dent in your pocketbook. Most offices charge about $10. per unit, resulting in about $250. per treatment area. However some offices charge as much as $500 per treatment area.
Regarding safety, it has been warned against having more than 200 units (there are 100 units in one vial) of Botox within a 30-day period. The average amount I am injected with per visit is between 50 and 75 units, which treats the glabella/and whole forehead and crow’s feet, respectively.
I do feel that it is better to start getting Botox as soon as you see the more severe dynamic furrows and wrinkles starting to form. Dynamic wrinkles form only when you move your facial muscles. I personally feel that it is better to prevent them at this time than waiting for them to develop into static wrinkles (or wrinkles that are there even when your facial muscles are at rest). By this time, the damage is done. Starting early is the best way to maintain the beauty that you have, rather than constantly battling to keep your head above water. Medical science has advanced enough to keep the effects of aging at bay as long as you choose the right maintenance regimen. Don’t wait until it’s too late…

Hi Marianne !
How about a blog on hair extensions? Your experience w/ them would be valuable !
Thanks, Casper
I was considering it! I have one that I have been working on :) Thank you, Casper!
As you've probably read in the last few days, there have been some new reports about the safety of BOTOX. The problems from what I understand are occuring (in rare instances) with non-cosmetic uses of the product. I work with a Medi Spa that offers BOTOX on Long Island and as always the spa staff are focused on safety as the number #1 goal. As far as timing, probably 4-6 months is about how long BOTOX will last for most patients, though there are some studies out there suggesting that after several treatments you'll be able to go longer between treatments (kind of a "build-up" effect).
Is it possible for Botox not to work? I had my first ever injection (3 sites) on Wednesday am, now it's Friday and nothing is happening.........
Thanks a lot :)
Joanna
Absolutely. It happened to my ex boyfriend. It didn't work his first time. He had less units than I liek to get but it took him going to another doc and getting more units for maximum effect. Then again it usually takes 3 days for me for it to kick in. Has yours kicked in yet or are you still wrinkly? ;)
